Institute of Contemporary Music Performance
HISTORY
The ICMP (The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, formerly known as the Guitar Institute), is an independent, specialist music education provider located in London, UK.
Founded in 1985, by session guitarist Alan Limbrick, the Institute was originally known as Guitartech & Basstech, and was focused exclusively on training and developing guitarists and bassists. The ‘tech’ names were later dropped and the Institute retained the ‘Guitar Institute’ name. The school now also offers courses in drums, vocals, songwriting, music business and music production.
COURSES
The school runs courses specializing in guitar, drums, bass, vocals, songwriting, music business and music production. These disciplines are available to study within a number of qualifications, each of which are accredited in a slightly different way.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To start the application is needed to fill in their “Apply Now” form. A member of the Admissions teamwill be in touch to discuss the next steps of the students` application. They will contact the student regard to booking the audition or the interview for the chosen course. Once the student successfully completed the audition and they reviewed the application the student can look forward to receiving a formal offer from them.
ACADEMIC STRENGTHS
They subscribe to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the UK`s higher education quality regulator.
They are a member of UCAS, which provides application services across a range of subject areas and modes of study for UK higher education providers.
They subscribe to the Office of the Independent Adjudicatot (OIA), an independent body set up to review student complaints against higher education institutions in England and Wales.
They are assessed annually by the Department for Education (DfE) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) for financial sustainability, management and governance capability.
TEACHING STANDARDS
As a subscriber to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), THE UK`s higher education quality regulator, the ICMP is regulated and their practices are qualiy assured in the same way as other UK universities. They are one of a small and select group of independent institutions who hold thif status and as a result they are able to use the “UK Quality Assured” kitemark, and successfully underwent Higher Education Review, the benchmark methodology for quality assurance assessment, by the QAA in February 2015.
