HISTORY

WMG was founded by Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya in 1980 to help reinvigorate UK manufacturing. From its inception WMG’s mission has been to improve the competitiveness of organisations through the application of value adding innovation, new technologies and skills deployment, bringing academic rigour to industrial and organisational practice. Today, the Group has grown into an international role model for how universities and business can successfully work together.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, KT, CBE, FREng, FRS, Regius Professor of Manufacturing, Chairman and Founder of WMG, was Britain’s first ever Professor of Manufacturing. He is a passionate industrialist and educator, whose involvement with manufacturing spans four decades.

They have built a solid reputation for delivering multi-partner projects and world class education programmes, which have has an impact on growth, the economy, society and environment.

Their approach to collaborating with industry, business and organisations has resulted in recognition from around the globe, and they are regularly visited by others who are keen to see how they work.

ENTRY REQUIMENTS

All applications must be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

They welcome applications from candidates offering many different qualifications, including A levels, the International Baccalaureate, the Cambridge Pre-U, Access to HE Diplomas, and many overseas qualifications.

In addition to these specific entry requirements for higher level subjects candidates must meet the University’s Undergraduate Admission Requirement at GCSE level or equivalent. This requires that all candidates should normally offer a broad range of GCSE subjects at grade C or higher, including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject (UAR).

ACADEMIC STRENGTHS

Having collaborative centres in India, China, Malaysia, North Cyprus, Singapore and Thailand enables them to deliver their world renowned programmes to an international market.

Their full-time undergraduate engineering degrees are delivered through a strategic partnership between theirselves and the School of Engineering, meaning students benefit from the expertise and facilities of two departments and a unified approach to teaching. They lead three degree programmes. Learning from staff who teach internationally and who also have immediate access to their research base, enables students to reach their highest goals, both personally and through teamwork.

Their part-time undergraduate degree, the Applied Engineering Programme, enables employees of engineering and technology-led companies to obtain a Bachelor’s in Engineering whilst working, and gives companies the opportunity to develop their workforce through access to key skills and latest thinking.

Full-time Masters programmes attract high calibre students who want to make an impact whether in business, engineering, technology, management or as an entrepreneur. Modern leaders need an appreciation of science, technology and engineering in order to succeed.
