Course details

Core modules of this course include ‘Media Studies’, ‘Cultural Theory’ and ‘Researching Media In Everyday Lives’. This is a dynamic course examining and exploring cultural trends and media industries. The power and effects of the media are all around us, and you will be able to engage with the most current influential forms of mass communication – the internet, social media, television, radio, popular music and cinema. Alongside traditional assessment methods, you will work creatively by making photographic essays, blogs and podcasts, developing radio policy and inventing and pitching a lifestyle TV show concept.

Entry requirements

  • UCAS Tariff Points: 120 points required
  • GCSE English Language at Grade C or above
  • Key Skills Level 2, Functional Skills Level 2 and the Certificate in Adult Literacy are accepted in place of GCSEs

This degree provides an excellent foundation for a wide range of careers in the media. Examples of possible sectors include TV, radio, new media, journalism, marketing, PR, organisational communications, and advertising. You can start your career in advertising, marketing, museums, arts administration and publishing, industrial, retail, leisure, and charitable organisation management, educational administration, accountancy, the social services, teaching or the Civil Service.
