The International Foundation in Business and Economics with Accounting prepares international students for direct entry to year one of an Undergraduate degree course within the Sir John Cass Business School, City University London. By combining academic study, intensive English language preparation, study skills and cultural orientation, the International Foundation program prepares students with the academic, English language and study skills that are needed for university success. Students will study compulsory modules including Academic English, Foundation Mathematics and Study Skills. These modules introduce students to the academic conventions used within UK universities; all the key mathematical concepts needed to study the first year of an Undergraduate degree program, and allows students to develop study skills that are essential to degree study, including time management and critical thinking.

Classes you will attend

  • Reading – understanding academic texts, using ideas from reading

  • Writing – different types of university assignment, grammar, vocabulary, structuring and organizing writing

  • Speaking – presenting your ideas in seminars and discussions, group and individual presentations, communicating with staff and other students

  • Listening – understanding lectures and taking notes, following seminar discussions

  • Finding and using resources in the library and online

  • Referencing, synthesis and avoiding plagiarism

  • Preparing and submitting university assignments

  • Preparing and submitting university assignments

  • Time management

  • Using the University Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle)

  • Communicating with tutors

Entry requirements

You need to have completed 12 years of schooling (or the local equivalent to meet the same standard) with good grades. To find out more about country specific entry requirementscontact us.

4 term program: IELTS 4.0 (no less than 4.0 in any subskill) or equivalent

3 term program: IELTS 4.5 (no less than 4.0 in any subskill) or equivalent
