We all know it’s coming whether we want it or not. Exams week. (Or weeks, depends on how crazy your studies are…)
How can you really prepare yourself for your exams? Here are some quick tips and advices on how to ace your exam preparation.

  1. Give yourself enough time to study

Everyone has done it at one point in their school or university life. Pulling an all-nighter before an important exam. It’s not the best way to approach learning for an exam. On the day of your exam you want to be rested and concentrated and –be honest with yourself- nobody is rested and concentrated after a whole night without sleep.

The best way would be to organise a learning schedule. Plan ahead what subjects and for how long you what to revise and on which days you want to learn for your exams.

Don’t forget to take regular breaks!

  1. Organise your working place

You can’t really study effectively if your working place is a cluttered mess. If you are studying at home, make sure to clean up your desk and eliminate all distractions, so you will not be distracted while revising.

Distractions include of course your Smartphone. A quick glance at your social media will surely kill your concentration span. Try to put your phone in another room, ask someone else (parent, friend, flatmate) to take it away from you while you are studying or try an app which will lock your phone for a specific amount of time.

  1. Take regular breaks

We can’t emphasize enough how important it is to take regular breaks while studying. Nobody can study for 3 hours straight without a small break. Try to take a 5 minute break after studying 40 – 45 minutes. Try to motivate yourself while studying, but don’t overdo it!

  1. Find your own learning strategy

It’s important to find your very own learning strategy so you can revise and study effectively. Everyone prefers a different approach. You can make flashcards (https://www.wikihow.com/Make-Flash-Cards), mind maps (https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Mind-Map), speak out loud and record what you are saying (don’t do this if you are in the library!) or a study group with friends. Make sure you meet them for studying and nor for gossiping or drinking coffee.

  1. The day of the exam

So the day is finally here, hopefully you went to bed early. But before you go out of the house in the morning, you should have a good breakfast. Even if you don’t usually eat something in the morning, try at least to eat a granola bar or some fruits like apples or blueberries. Your brain will need the energy to work properly during the exam. Don’t forget to stay hydrated during your exam!
